Cell Phone Policy
Cell phones, headphones, and similar devices MUST remain off and out of sight during the school day. Students are encouraged to secure these items in a purse, pocket, book bag, locker, etc. upon arrival to school. Consequences will be issued for continued cell phone/electronic device violations, including text messaging, picture or videotaping. Camera phones, video taping, and inappropriate use of cell phones shall be subject to disciplinary measures. The sending, forwarding or possessing of inappropriate images at school is forbidden and consequence may result. District #61 is not liable for damage or theft of personal property. E-Readers, Kindles, iPads - iPods, and MP3/CD players or similar devices are not to be used during regular school hours, unless pre-approval has been received from the building Principal. District #61 is not liable for damage or theft of personal property. Inappropriate use shall be subject to discipline measures.
Students can use cell phones before or after the school day in a designated marked area or supervised by a staff member of an event or practice. Parents who need to reach their child (or vice versa) should communicate through the phones in the school office.
1st Violation - Lunch Detention
2nd Violation - Office Detention
3rd Violation - Office Detention & Social Probation
Further Violations - Parent required to pick up device and meet with administrator.
Social Probation
Bradley Central Middle School Social Probation Policy
Purpose
Social probation is a disciplinary measure used to help students reflect on behavioral or academic concerns by temporarily restricting participation in non-academic activities. It is intended as a corrective tool—not a punishment—to support students in meeting school expectations.
Scope
This policy applies to all students in grades 6–8 who violate behavioral, academic, or attendance expectations established by the school.
Criteria for Social Probation
A student may be placed on social probation for any of the following:
- Removal from classroom due to behavioral incident
- Appearing on the weekly eligibility report with an 'R' (Rarely) in a work habits rating.
- Chronic tardiness or unexcused absences
- Student handbook violations
- Violation of school rules during extracurricular events
Conditions of Social Probation
While on social probation, students may be restricted from participating in:
- School dances or socials
- Non-academic Field trips
- Clubs or student government
- Athletic team practices and competitions (team members & non-team members)
- After-school programs (unless academic support-related)
Notification and Communication
- The student and their parent/guardian will receive written notice of the probation, including:
- The reason for placement
- Duration of the probation
Duration
- Probation typically lasts 1 to 4 weeks, depending on the nature of the infraction and student response.
- Duration may be extended if improvements are not demonstrated.
Path to Reinstatement
To be removed from social probation, the student must:
- Demonstrate consistent positive behavior
- Improve attendance and/or academic performance
- Complete any assigned restorative tasks (e.g., apology letters, behavior reflections)
- Meet with a counselor or administrator for a re-evaluation
Supports During Probation
While on probation, students will be offered:
- Access to academic tutoring or support staff (if needed)
- Counseling services (if appropriate)
- Regular check-ins with a designated mentor or administrator
- Behavior or goal-tracking sheets (if needed)

All matters related to social probation will be handled confidentially and in accordance with school privacy policies.
